Welcome to the STS Glossary, an individual project created by Ren Makishima, MSc in Science and Technology in Society Progrramme student at University of Edinburgh.
This website serves as a comprehensive resource for students, researchers, and anyone interested in the interdisciplinary field of Science and Technology Studies (STS).
The aim of this website is to provide clear and concise definitions that help bridge the gap between academic theory and practical understanding by explaining complex concepts in an accessible way.
Above all, this website tries to be reflexive, as STS is.
From a brief review of basic concepts such as boundary work to larger circles such as sociology of expectations and responsible innovation, the glossary reflects the evolving situation of STS.
This website is a project part of my Impact Activity for Edinburgh Award, skills development programme hosted by university.
Through curating this glossary, I aim to contribute to a more inclusive and accessible dialogue around science, technology, and society.
Again, this place is open to any comments, other than some excessively controversial philosophical debate,
like “dubs or subs”, or “Milk-in-after or Milk-in-first”.
